England U-21 midfielder Mason Mount signs a new five-year deal with Chelsea

Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount signs a new five-year contract that commits him to the club until 2024.

The 20-year-old midfielder joined Chelsea in 2005, aged six, and was part of the sides that won the FA Youth Cup in 2016 and 2017.

The England Under-21 international spent last season on loan at Derby, making 44 appearances and scoring 11 goals for the Rams as they reached the Championship play-off final which they lost 2-1 to the newly promoted Aston Villa.

Mount briefly spoke on how privileged and happy he is to continue to look and search for more first team football under ex-Derby and now Chelsea manager, Frank Lampard.

He said:

“It’s a massively proud moment for myself and my family,” said Mount.

“It was always my goal to play for the first team one day. I’m really looking forward to the coming season now and working hard to have an impact here at Chelsea.

“I’ve been at the club for a long time already and hopefully I’ll stay for a long time to come.”

Mount was among the scorers as Chelsea beat Irish side St Patrick’s Athletic 4-0 in their second pre-season friendly of the summer in Dublin on Saturday.
