Karen Bardsley signs new deal with Manchester City Women

Manchester City goalkeeper Karen Bardsley has signed a new two-year deal with the club.

The England keeper joined City ahead of their inaugural season in the FA WSL in 2014. Her new deal runs until 2021.

Since joining in 2014, when the side became professional the 34-year-old has played 98 games. Which means next season she will hit the 100 match milestone.

Bardsley was a key member of the Premier League side teams who won both the Continental Cup and women’s FA Cup this season.

After committing her future to City, Bardsley told CityTV:

“I’m really proud to be part of this organisation and it means a lot to have been here from the start. I’m over the moon.

“The thing I really like about this Club is that they stick to their word. When they say they’ll do things, they do it and they look to evolve in continuing to challenge perceptions and raise the bar in women’s football.

“That’s something close to my heart and I’m really happy and fortunate to be part of it.

“It’s a big weight off your shoulders (to have signed a new deal before the World Cup),” she continued.

“It’s a stress-reliever to know you’re secure and that the thing you had hoped to happen, happened, especially going into the World Cup.

“It means I can focus on the World Cup now, knowing that afterwards, there’s more to look forward to for a really great season ahead with a fresh approach to the 2019/20 season.”

Bardsley is part of Phil Neville’s squad for the Women’s World Cup which kicks off on June 7.
