Recruitment unlikely for Spurs in January according to Pochettino

Tottenham are unlikely to add to the squad over the course of the next month, according to manager Mauricio Pochettino. Spurs also chose not to add to the squad over the summer, too, but it seems the Argentine fails to see the value in the winter window.

Spurs are suffering with a number of injuries, Victor Wanyama, Moussa Dembele, Eric Dier and Jan Vertonghen have all suffered regularly this season, whilst Heung-Min Son is to be lost to the Asian Cup for much of January. But Pochettino believes he has the depth and quality in his squad to see out the season, and challenge for silverware.

Speaking to the press after their comprehensive 7-0 win over minnows Tranmere Rovers, he said;

“[It will be] difficult. I don’t believe we are going to do anything.

“I am so happy with my squad but always you can improve.”

But Pochettino did not want to commit to the idea of there being absolutely no action at the club this month. Forward Fernando Llorente has struggled for game time this season, but bagged a hat trick in that win over Tranmere. Despite this, his manager is aware of the situation, and may be willing to let Llorente leave the club.

“He has six months left with the club, we will see what happens,” said Pochettino. “Like I said for different players, it is not only in our hands. It is what the player wants.

“Now the transfer window is open we are going to talk.”
