CL Round Up – England 2 : 0 Italy. Spurs, Liverpool through at expense of Inter and Napoli

Group A – Dortmund pip Atletico to top place

Atletico Madrid and Borussia Dortmund were already qualified from Group A, with Club Brugge assured of third.

Raphaël Guerreiro scored twice to give Dortmund an easy 2-0 win in Monaco. Brugge and Atletico finished goalless to allow the German club to top the group.

Group B – Late Moura goal in Nou Camp ensures unlikely qualification for Spurs

In Group B, Tottenham needed to match the Inter Milan result at the very least to qualify, however they were away to Barcelona while Inter were at home to last placed PSV Eindhoven.

Ousmane Dembélé put Barcelona ahead early against Spurs to give Inter the initial advantage. Shortly after Dembélé’s opener in Catalonia however, Mexico’s Hirving Lozano brilliantly headed home a shock goal for PSV in Milan which put Mauricio Pochettino’s men back in a notional third place.

Kwadwo Asamoah continued to cause PSV problems down Inter’s left even tormenting the Dutch hero of their 2-0 win over France Denzel Dumfries who defended well all night. Jeroen Zoet produced an excellent save to deny Mauro Icardi at the very start of the second half, and several more saves to frustrate Inter.

Internazionale finally levelled when a long, looping cross from Matteo Politano on the right found Icardi who headed home his fourth of the competition from close-in. 

The equaliser put Inter up to second ahead of Spurs who were still trialing in Barcelona, but their world came crashing down with the news that 
Lucas Moura had scored an 85th minute leveler for Tottenham at the Nou Camp.

Group C – Salah goal edges Liverpool through

In the much more complicated Group C, a goal by Uruguayan forward Edinson Cavani goal gave Paris Saint Germain the lead in Belgrade.

Neymar doubled the lead before half time with World Cup winner Kylian Mbappé providing both opportunities. The win ensured PSG of first place in the group. Marko Gobeljic pulled one back for the Serbian side. Brazil’s Marquinhos headed in PSG’s third from an Angel Di Maria cross. Mbappé added a fourth late on to secure a 4-1 win for PSG

Mo Salah gave Liverpool a first half lead over Napoli when James Milner presented him with a poacher’s opportunity. This gave Liverpool a narrow advantage in the group over their Italian guests.

They held on to ensure another night of glory for the Merseyside club for whom everything has gone right this week.
