Lancashire have signed batsman Joe Burns as their overseas player for ten County Championship matches next season.

29-year-old Burns has featured in fourteen Test matches for Australia, scoring three centuries with an average of 36.76.

Domestic cricket is no stranger to Burns, who played in the T20 Blast for Glamorgan in 2018 and has previously enjoyed spells at Leicestershire and Middlesex.

The Red Rose, who were relegated to the Specsavers County Championship Division Two last term, have previously signed their overseas players from Australia as bowler Joe Mennie joined last season.

Speaking after his move to Lancashire was confirmed, the Queensland batsman said:  “Lancashire is a huge county with a fine history in the game and I am extremely excited to have the opportunity to play for the Red Rose next year.

“It will be a huge honour to play at a world-class stadium like Emirates Old Trafford and I am very much looking forward to joining up with the squad.

“I’m determined to put in some match winning contributions for the side and help Lancashire push for promotion at the first time of asking.”
