The Philadelphia Union needed a win, but ultimately took just one point away from Saturday’s draw with Atlanta United FC.
The Union usually is content to cede possession during games, but against Atlanta it held onto 51% of possession. Philadelphia dominated the game’s stats in the categories of shots on goal (7-1) and shot attempts (21-11), which leads to the question whether the club has better outcomes when it has less possession and can score on the counter.
In the game, Philadelphia scored first but in the 61st minute when Nathan Harriel came out of nowhere to shoot to the open left net. The assist went to Kai Wagner, which added to his 12 assists on the season – the team’s best.
Atlanta United scored later, in the 72nd minute, when Saba Lobjanidze headed the ball into Philadelphia’s goal down and to the left. The assist was awarded to Brooks Lennon.
The game ended with that 1-1 score, with both Philadelphia and Atlanta walking away with 1 point a piece. Philadelphia is in 10th place.
