It’s the final round of regular games in the Betfred Super League season before the highly anticipated play-offs as Wigan Warriors face the already confirmed League Leaders Shield winners, Catalans Dragons.
It was confirmed that no one could catch the Dragons at Magic Weekend after one of the greatest comebacks in recent Rugby League history.
Catalans came back from 30-12 down to beat St Helens with three tries in the final three minutes and a James Maloney drop goal in Golden point which meant the French outfit not only won the game but won the League Leaders Shield for 2021.
They lifted the Shield at the following home game which started well but saw the Huddersfield Giants make a fantastic comeback to win the encounter 30-18.
However, that didn’t put a stop to the celebrations in Perpignan as Dragons Head Coach, Steve McNamara, rotated the squad and gave the youngsters some valuable game time.
As for the Warriors, there was a point where it was being questioned if they would even make the play-offs this season.
It has been a tough campaign for Adrian Lam who has recently announced that this season will be his last in charge of Wigan, but the Australian seems determined to finish his time on a high with some silverware.
The Warriors have confirmed their top-four finish which has been considered a success given the struggles the 2021 season has thrown at everyone connected with the Rugby League.
After not conceding a single point in their last two away games, Wigan will be wanting a positive result to go into the play-offs with momentum and confidence.
As for the squads, Wigan have made three changes to their squad with Willie Isa returning from a four-match suspension to join James McDonnell who has been recalled from York City Knights and Tony Club who also returns to the squad. The trio replace Brad Singleton, Liam Marshall and Morgan Smithies.
After making a whole host of changes for the Huddersfield game, Catalans have announced that Samisoni Langi, Julian Bousquet, Mike McMeeken, Benjamin Garcia, Joel Tomkins, Joe Chan, Sam Kasiano and Sam Tomkins are all back in the squad for the clash at the DW.
