It was a great night for the Giants at the John Smith’s Stadium as the Yorkshire side won their first game since late May when they beat Leigh Centurions.

Huddersfield faced off against Yorkshire rivals Hull FC, who were playing their first game of the month after Covid protocols played havoc with the sides’ fixtures over the last four weeks.

The game got off to a very exciting start with FC taking an early lead through Carlos Tuimavave after four minutes. That try was the first of three that were scored in the first 11 minutes of the game.

A see-saw of a first-half concluded with Huddersfield going into the interval with a slender 22-16 lead. Tries from Jermaine McGillvary, Nathan Peats, Will Pryce and Luke Yates for the Giants gave them the advantage at the break.

The standout try came from young Pryce, as he danced through the Hull defence to power over the line in front of his father, who was part of the pundit line up for Sky Sports on Thursday evening. Pryce was impressive throughout the night, showing the incredible potential that Ian Watson has alluded to a number of times.

Things got better for the Giants in the second-half as McGillvary notched another two tries to add to his double in the first-half to give him four tries on the night and his side a much needed two points on the board.

One performance that stood out was Olly Russell for the Giants. He had a very tough night in terms of conversions, having many from virtually impossible angles and he wasn’t far away with quite a few, one even hitting the post.

However, Russell played some inch-perfect through balls and delicate kicks to set up his teammates for tries in both halves, something which had the John Smith’s Stadium absolutely bouncing towards the end of the game.

Hull did have some bright sparks during the game as some high kicks troubled the Huddersfield defence at times, but overall, Hull FC Head Coach Brett Hodgson knew “there is no excuses” which he stated with disappointment during his press conference.

The game had a moment of brilliance towards the end of the encounter. Huddersfield Giants legend Leroy Cudjoe touched down whilst making his 300th appearance in a Giants jersey which was met with one of the biggest celebrations of the night.

The encounter ended on a sour note as two red cards were shown after the final hooter for Giants’ Josh Jones and FC’s Andre Savelio after numerous punches were thrown.

The night concluded in celebration for the Giants, who had finally ended their losing streak and earned themselves a much needed and deserved win.
