Salford Red Devils’ Harvey Livett has said he’s determined to help his team climb up the Super League table.
Livett – a second-rower – joined the Red Devils from Warrington Wolves on a two-year contract at the start of the season and has recently taken over as the side’s goal-kicker.
Having notched two tries in last weekend’s cup tie with Castleford Tigers, 24-year-old Livett is hungry for more and will do what he can to help the team.
“It helps to score and I’m popping up at the right time at the moment, which I’ve done throughout my career, but I’ll do anything that helps the team. It’s just about focusing on getting as far up that league table as we can.
“If I can get a few tries and points, it’s a bonus. I’ve always had the trait of being a goal-kicker in me and it’s creeping back into my game now. I’m practicing in training and trying to get better each week.
“The main target for me personally is to play as many games as possible and to enjoy playing again, which I am at the minute. For the last couple of years, I’ve lacked the game time and now I want to get good form back into my game.”
Since his move to the AJ Bell Stadium, Livett has only tasted victory on one occasion – a 34-8 triumph over newly-promoted Leigh Centurions.
Accordingly, the Red Devils sit tenth in the table, but the former Warrington man isn’t letting that deter him from having high hopes for the rest of the campaign.
“Everyone wants to finish top but if we can get into that top six come the end of the season then it’d be a really good finish for us, and we can see what can happen in the playoffs then.
“Salford have been to the Grand Final before and I’m hoping that we can get back there this year and actually win it this time. We need some good performances in the next couple of weeks and hopefully some wins.”
Salford’s next test comes on Monday night when they travel to take on league leaders and reigning champions St Helens.
Ahead of that game, Red Devils manager Richard Marshall had some complimentary words for Livett.
“Harvey’s been fantastic for us and has played in nearly every minute of every game for us. He’s very durable. There’s lots of areas that we have him working on and if he can score more then that’s even better.”
