As the 2021 season edges closer to starting we will be looking at each F1 team ahead of the new season. Moving onto Red Bull who have stuck with ever reliant Max Verstappen but added experienced driver Sergio Perez to their repertoire.
Red Bull
Since the Red Bull franchise took over the Jaguar F1 team, the car has gone from strength to strength having won the Driver’s and Constructor’s Championships for four years in a row between 2010 and 2013.
Drivers like Sebastian Vettel, David Coulthard, Mark Webber and Daniel Ricciardo have all driven for the England based outfit.
After finishing second in the Constructor’s Championship, Red Bull will want to build on that and bring the fight to the dominant force in F1, Mercedes.
With a brand new pairing for the third season in a row, Christian Horner has opted to of course stick with his golden boy Max Verstappen, but add Sergio Perez in as an experienced head and a driver that could be capable of pushing the young Dutchman to his limits this season.
Max Verstappen
The 23-year-old has been the shining light for the Red Bull team and has carried them to victories in the last three years.
After making a quick step up from F3, the Dutchman started out in the Toro Rosso outfit in 2015 after a third-place finish in the European Formula Three in 2014.
One season with the sister team and he made his way into a Red Bull seat after only four races of the 2016 season and he’s been fantastic for the team.
Race win after race win, he’s amassed 10 F1 victories and a numerous amount of podium features with Verstappen looking likely to be the only man to stop Lewis Hamilton from reaching a record-breaking eighth World Championship.
Sergio Perez
Mr. Reliable as many fans from around the world would like to call Sergio ‘Checo’ Perez. He started his F1 career all the way back in 2011 for the Sauber team.
In terms of podiums, 2012 was his mos successful years for gaining trophies and posing for the cameras on the podium steps as he came away with three podium appearances that season.
His first race win finally came in the 2020 season. After a hectic Sakhir Grand Prix, the Mexican took the advantage to jump on top for the first time.
After finishing fourth in the Championship last season, he will look to finish there once more and therefore becoming an equal match to Verstappen.
Prediction for the season
After pushing Mercedes last year, Red Bull, Christian Horner and Adrian Newby will be looking to do the same this season and keep all the other teams behind them.
Red Bull will also hope that their third new duo can deliver them more points in their fight with the German outfit and stop them from winning yet another Driver’s Championship.
For Verstappen, he will be hunting Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas once more as he has fought them for the past couple of years and failed to split them in the Driver’s Standings after two consecutive third-place finishes.
The Dutchman was close to splitting them this season after the Finn didn’t have the best of seasons. This is a campaign where the 23-year-old must push and really get close to Hamilton as he looks to be the only man that can be the only one to stop the seven-time World Champion.
Meanwhile for Perez, he finished close to his new Red Bull teammate in fourth and the Austrian team will be hoping that the Mexican can become somewhat of a challenge for his young teammate as he pushes his limits even further.
The 31-year-old will need to accommodate himself into the team quickly and get up to speed with the car relatively quickly as mistakes cannot be made if Red Bull are wanting to close the gap on Mercedes.
