It was a race full of excitment and drama, but Mick Schumacher had prevailed and won the Championship by 14 points. Jehan Daruvala won the Sprint Race and was joined on the podium by Carlin teammate, Yuki Tsunoda, who finished in second, and Dan Ticktum who finished third.

All eyes were on the Championship rivals, but Schumacher’s tyre problems saw him finish the Sprint Race in 18th, Callum Ilott after a strong start dropped outside the points and finished 10th.

Guanyu Zhou narrowly missed the podium with the UNI-Virtuosi driver finishing fourth ahead of Prema Racing’s Robert Shwartzman. Giuliano Alesi finished sixth, Luca Ghiotto in seventh and Felipe Drugovich in the last point scoring position finished the race in eighth-place.

As It Happened

Schumacher and Ilott lined up on the second-row of the grid together with the Prema Racing driver 14 points ahead of his rival going into the final race of the season.

The German had a fantastic getaway from the line, sneaking past Jehan Daruvala on the inside of turn one, but he then lost second-place after a nasty lockup from the Championship leader saw the Carlin overtake him in turn four.

Schumacher recovered and moved back into second, the flat spot looked to be an issue, but he remained on the hunt for pole sitter Dan Ticktum..

Yuki Tsunoda was looking to finish the season on a high note, he moved back into the points, getting past Nikita Mazepin with relative ease on turn one.

Tsunoda’s teammate, Daruvala, did not give up the chase and moved back ahead of Schumacher into second, the Indian driver manoeuvred ahead of the German.

Ralph Boschung retired from the race on lap nine as his car had some sort of issue and cut his race short.

At the halfway point of the race, Ticktum led away from Daruvala with Schumacher in third. Ilott was fourth, Robert Shwartzman fifth, Guanyu Zhou sixth, Felipe Drugovich seventh and Tsunoda in eighth.

Ilott and Shwartzman locked horns, the Russian looked to help his teammate Schumacher and took fourth away from the Brit temporarily, but Ilott fought back at took his place.

Schumacher was then shuffled down the order as he struggled with his flat spotted right rear tyre. The Championship leader had no other choice but pit, he put on new soft tyres which dropped him down to the back of the field.

In the last corner of the circuit Daruvala made it past Ticktum and moved into first place, he went on to win the race and claimed his first win in Formula Two

But the biggest plaudits go to Schumacher who won the Championship. Ilott fell away during the race and finished the race in tenth earning no points and handing the title to the German. Tsunoda, after his fantastic weekend rocketed to third in the Driver’s Championship and earned the title of best rookie.
