A hat-trick from Jadon Sancho ensured Borussia Dortmund cruised to a 6-1 win over last-placed Paderborn on Sunday afternoon.

The first chance of the game actually went to Paderborn when Christopher Antwi-Adjei shot flashed wide in the tenth minute.

Antwi-Adjei had another chance two minutes later as he saw a through ball from Sebastian Vasiliadis fall to his feet but the midfielder shot was fired over the bar.

The first sight of goal for Dortmund came from a long ball forward by Lukasz Piszczek which found Thorgan Hazard, the forward’s shot saved by Paderborn goalkeeper Leopold Zingerle.

The Yellow and Blacks tried to find their way through with neat interchange between Raphaël Guerreiro, Sancho and Emre Can, although the German’s shot at the end of the move would be wayward.

The final chance of the first half fell to Julian Brandt as after a great attacking move started by Achraf Hakimi, the former Leverkusen man failed to stay composed and put his effort over the bar.

The best chance of the game and the second-half came in the 49th minute. Guerriero’s cross trickled past Hazard and Sancho. It eventually fell to Hakimi with his shot superbly saved by Zingerle.

Dortmund would get the break through in the 54th minute. Can’s cross would be punched away by Zingerle only as far as Hazard, who needed no second invitation after a chance missed moment earlier, to tap the ball into the back of the net.

Sancho fired Dortmund into a two goal lead soon after. Thomas Delaney found Brandt with a great through ball who squared it to the English forward to easily finish.

A penalty was awarded to Paderborn on 72 minutes after Can handled the ball when attempting to block a shot. Uwe Hünemeier slotted the ball into the top corner of Roman Burki’s goal. Paderborn were right back into this.

Well, they were for a couple of minutes as moments later, Dortmund restored their two goal lead. Hazard found a cut back to Sancho in the middle of the box and his powerful shot across the keeper scored his second of the afternoon.

With five minutes to go, Hakimi put the game to bed. The give and go between Hazard and Sancho saw their move stopped but substitute Marcel Schmelzer intercepted the ball, passed it into the path of Hakimi and the full-back drove the shot into the bottom corner.

Marcel Schmelzer put the icing on top of the cake for Dortmund. Axel Witsel found the left-back as he tapped it into the back of the net for his first goal of the season.

Jadon Sancho completed his first Bundesliga hat-trick in stoppage time to secure a massive win for Lucien Favre’s men.
