Monica Ocampo’s sensational strike for Mexico against England was voted the greatest Women’s World Cup goal by FIFA.com users.

Ocampo’s superb goal occurred in a 1-1 draw with England at the 2011 World Cup in Germany. In Mexico’s opening match, Fara Williams gave England the lead but just 12 minutes later Ocampo unleashed an absolute thunderbolt to draw her side level.

After receiving possession in the middle of the opposition half, the Mexican forward took a couple of steps forward before powering a sensational drive just under the crossbar and into the top corner of the net. El Tri held firm for their first ever point at a Women’s World Cup, on their second appearance in the competition.

FIFA.com users chose Ocampo’s long-range strike ahead of Song Xiaoli’s goal for China in their first match of the 2007 tournament, which came second in the voting. America’s Carli Lloyd came third with her amazing shot from the halfway line in the 2015 final in Canada which voters ranked in third spot.

The 2019 Women’s World Cup takes place in France from 7 June to 7 July. With France taking on Korea Republic in the first match of this year’s tournament.
