Tottenham announce crucial stadium update

Tottenham have announced dates for their first fixtures in their new stadium after months of delays.

The north London club have first announced two test events to be held on the 24th and 30th March. The first fixture will be an Under-18’s academy match against Southampton at 30,000 capacity before a Tottenham Hotspur Legends match at 45,000.

The first Premier League match is still dependant on other clubs results. If Brighton were to progress in the FA Cup quarter-final match on the 17th March, Spurs would open their 62,000 stadium against Crystal Palace on 3rd April.

If Brighton were to lose, Mauricio Pochettino’s team would play Brighton on the 6th/7th April, subject to Champions League scheduling with the Palace game pushed back to the 23rd/24th April.

Tottenham will then be playing a Champions League quarter-final on the 9th/10th or the 16th/17th of April depending on next Friday’s draw.

Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy said on the good news:

“We are delighted that we shall be able to welcome our supporters to the stadium and our players of the past and the future to take to the pitch on what will be momentous occasions for our Club.

“Please do come and see your new stadium and share these moments.

“Thank you all once again. Your support has been much appreciated during a challenging but exciting time.”

The announcement will come as a relief for Spurs fans who have waited to get into their new home since the start of the season, spending almost two seasons at Wembley.
