Pochettino frustrated with fixture congestion

Mauricio Pochettio has voiced his frustrations at the congested fixture list in England and has called for help.

The Tottenham manager voiced his concerns ahead of Spurs’ Champions League second leg against Borussia Dortmund in their round of 16 clash.

Spurs lead 3-0 from the first leg, but Pochettino was still upset with the lack of rest and preparation his side have been afforded.

Dortmund will have had an extra day to prepare by the time the two square off on Tuesday.

The Bundesliga outfit lost 2-1 on Friday to FC Augsburg, whereas Spurs had to face Arsenal in the lunchtime kick-off on Saturday.

Pochettino has called on the Football Association to help English clubs when it comes to European preparation.

“I think we need help from the FA, we need help from the Premier League, I don’t know because I am not involved in the decisions,” said the Argentine.

“I don’t know whether to blame the FA or to blame the Premier League or to blame Tottenham because we changed the day because we still not deliver our new stadium or the TV because they wanted us to play live on Saturday.”

The 47-year-old even highlighted that French club Rennes had their game rearranged to aid preparation against Arsenal in the Europa League.

“They cancelled their game at the weekend to help or provide Rennes to play against Arsenal.”

Pochettino said that the difference in time to prepare has made for an unfair advantage for teams on the continent.

“I would like to play in the same situation as your opponent. That is the most important, you have the same day to prepare for the game.

“I think that is not fair and it is a problem that in the future we need to change if we want to help the English clubs be stronger in the competition.”

Spurs will take a commanding 3-0 advantage to Germany where they will face off against Dortmund for a spot in the quarter-finals of the Champions League.
