Tottenham and France midfielder Moussa Sissoko could face up to a month on the sidelines with a groin injury sustained in his sides 1-0 defeat to Manchester United.
The 29-year-old has started ten out of Spurs’ last 11 games with the club lacking fully-fit options in central midfield.
The former £30 million signing from Newcastle has been a revelation this season, transforming from an unpopular fringe player to a crucial part of the Tottenham team as they sit third in the Premier League.
Sissoko’s teammate Mousa Dembele is expected to sign in China over the coming days, giving Mauricio Pochettino even less options in the middle of the park with Eric Dier and Victor Wanyama also unavailable through injury.
The burden may well fall onto academy products Harry Winks and Oliver Skipp to marshal the Tottenham midfield as important games arrive in the Premier League, Champions League and Carabao Cup.
Pochettino’s men will hope to welcome the Frenchman back in time for the Champions League round of 16 clash with Borussia Dortmund on February 13th as well as a potential Carabao Cup final game on the 24th.
This news follows yesterday’s announcement that striker Harry Kane would be out with an ankle injury until early March.
The injuries to Kane and Sissoko spring chairman Daniel Levy into action in the transfer market as the north London club look to challenge across four competitions.
