Gotham FC 1-0 over Reign FC in Jessica Fishlock’s final match

Gotham FC 1
Seattle Reign FC 0
NWSL Playoffs Quarterfinal
November 8, 2026

The match report will show that Gotham FC defeated Seattle Reign FC one-nil on Sunday November 8 at Sports Illustrated Stadium in New Jersey. It will show that the only goal was an unlucky touch in the fourth minute by a Seattle defender. And, it will show that Jessica Fishlock was subbed off in the 75th minute.

With the Gotham FC victory, they move on to another semifinal. The Reign season comes to an end. Jessica Fishlock’s long and fantastic career came to an end.

Fishlock will retire with all sorts of club and country records for goals, appearances, seasons, and assists. Seattle earned three shields in her time with the club. She retires as the last of the final three OG’s in Seattle following the retirements of Megan Rapinoe and Lu Barnes in recent seasons. Her 162 caps for Wales are the most for her country. She scored against France in the 2025 UEFA Women’s Euro; the first major tournament her national side had qualified for.

In the 2018 Birthday Honors she was appointed MBE “for services to women’s football and the LGBT community” by then Prince Charles.

After the match today she said, “No tears, I have had a great career.” Indeed. Even in her final match she was productive on the pitch, nearly leveling the match with a long range shot that just went wide.

I have been with Prost since 2014 covering mostly WOSO and the Reign all that time. Jess was a joy to cover as a writer. She was always available after matches no matter the result and she would look you in the eye and give a direct answer. The sheer joy of her on field celebration when her late goal clinched the 2015 NWSL Shield on a rainy Memorial Stadium pitch is a favorite memory. She is funny and smart. She loved playing for her country and the club. When the Reign went younger in recent seasons she embraced the veteran role, assisting in the development of her younger teammates while the club still made the playoffs. It will be weird without her. I can only wish her the best.
