LAFC has decided to stay in-house for its new head coach, at least for the remainder of the season.
Last week, LAFC announced that Xavi Tamarit was named interim head coach. Tamarit will coach the team through the remainder of LAFC’s last six regular season games, which starts this coming Saturday at home against the Vancouver Whitecaps, as well as the 2026 MLS Cup playoffs.
“Xavi brings a wealth of experience at the highest levels of the game and a clear understanding of our players, their strengths and what this group needs now,” said LAFC President of Soccer Operations John Thorrington. “We have full confidence in Xavi and the rest of the staff to get the best out of this team. Our standards and ambitions remain unchanged, and we are committed to giving everything to finish the 2026 season strong.”
Tamarit replaces Marc Dos Santos, who was fired by the team last Sunday after they lost to FC Dallas the day before. That loss marked a brutal stretch for LAFC in which it has only won one of its last ten matches and has seen its position drop from the top four in the Western Conference to its current position of sixth place. Despite that, LAFC sits just two points out of second place in the conference and Tamarit is tasked with trying to get LAFC’s season back on track.
Prior to his stint with LAFC, Tamarit had coached all across the globe, with stints in the English Premier League, La Liga and Argentina’s AFA Liga Profesional de Fútbol.
