MLS Announces format for 2027 Sprint Season

NEW YORK, NY–Major League Soccer has announced the format for what it is calling the 2027 Sprint Season as it transitions its calendar to align with most leagues around the world. The Sprint Season will be 14 matches in length and will have the teams play within their respective conferences.

Each team will play the other teams in their conference once and will play seven home games and seven away games from February to April. The top eight teams in each conference will make the playoffs which will be single elimination. The two conference champions will face each other for MLS Cup in 2027.

Five teams will qualify for the 2028 Concacaf Champions Cup will nine teams from each conference will qualify for Leagues Cup.

This 2026 season will mark the last full season that plays over the Summer months.
