The weekend was a fine day for the old order, as Arsenal Tottenham and Chelsea all recorded excellent wins, while Fulham, West Ham, Palace and Brentford all lost.
The results left the Gunners finally top of the league after Chelsea inflicted Liverpool’s third defeat in a week.
Chelsea recorded their best performance of the season with a superb 2-1 win over Liverpool in what may also be the best EPL match of the fledgling season so far.
A superb long range effort from Moses Caceido gave the Blues a deserved lead but Liverpool battled and battled, and Cody Gakpo’s equaliser was as deserved if not as spectacular as Caceido’s opener.
The closing stages resembled two boxers looking for a knockout punch as the game went end to end. It was the home side who found the winner with young teenage Brazilian Estevao sliding in at the right hand post to set Stamford Bridge alight.

Chelsea finish the weekend in 7th but will be licking their lips with Nottingham Forest up next.
That Liverpool loss left Arsenal top of the table after they had recorded a solid and comfortable 2-0 win over West Ham in their first London Derby of the season.
The Gunners had beaten Olympiakos 2-0 at home in the Champions League just days before and this victory was, if anything, even easier. It was especially a much quieter day for Arsenal keeper David Raya who had no shots to save.
Injuries to Martin Odegaard and Declan Rice were the only downsides.
Rice opened the scoring against his former club in the 38th minute before Bukayo Saka converted a penalty with a quarter of the game remaining.

Arsenal won their first derby of the season, beating West Ham 2-0
The win opens Arsenal’s account in our London Derby league table.
With three points per game, they are level with Spurs while West Ham now have four straight derby losses. Brentford are the only other side without a derby win.
On Saturday morning, Tottenham turned a series of recent draws into a win, this time 1-2 at Leeds. Mathys Tel gave them the lead only for Noah Okafor to equalise for the Yorkshiremen before half time.
Spurs player of the season Mohamed Kudus scored a second half winner and Tottenham held on to the lead in a game where they only had 43% possession and were largely on the backfoot. They had just one corner.
But days after returning from a game inside the Arctic Circle, it was a magnificent win for a side that had been leaking too many points in winnable games.
Fulham were pretty pathetic for the second week running, once again losing 3-1 after taking the lead. Bournemouth are very on form but the ease with which they overran their guests once the Cherries made key substitutions should worry Marco Silva.
The SW6 club have now lost more points having taken the lead than any other club since the start of last season. To be fair, the goals the first two they conceded to Antoine Semenyo and Justin Kluivert were fantastic, but Semenyo was allowed to sneak too close to goal from too narrow an angle.
More worryingly, Ryan Sessegnon had given the Cottagers the lead in the 70th minute and they didn’t have that long to hold on. They never looked likely to.
Sunday did not bring good fortunes however for the capital.
Crystal Palace’s 19 game unbeaten run came to an end at Everton with a narrow 2-1 loss.
The Eagles took the lead through Daniel Munoz against a sparkless home side. Jack Grealish called Everton’s first half performance ‘the worst of their season’.
The last half hour may have been Palace’s worst for a while. After Jean-Philipe Mateta scuffed a superb 64th minute opportunity to double the lead, fatigue from their midweek trip to Poland began to tell.
Iliman Ndiaye converted a penalty after a very tired challenge by Maxence Lacroix in the box before Grealish saw the ball cleared into him after a stramash in the Palace six yard box.
Brentford hosted Manchester City, losing 0-1.
The Manchester visitors dominated the first half and passed the ball easily around a very passive home side, Erling Haaland becoming the first non-Phil Foden City player to score at Brentford in the Premier League.
To their credit, the Bees came out stronger after the interval but very rarely looked likely to take one point, never mind three, off the Citizens.
The Bees are only three points off the drop zone as we head into the international break but with West Ham up next, they have a decent chance of extending that.
There are two London derbies next weekend as Fulham also host Arsenal, so our London derbies table will look very different next article.
Chelsea visit struggling Nottingham Forest and Palace host Bournemouth in an unlikely top of the table clash. Spurs host Aston Villa on Sunday before the Bees visit West Ham on Monday to wrap up the weekend.
