Dor Turgeman shines in MLS debut, NE win 2-0 over ATL

FOXBOROUGH, MA– New England Revolution (9-8-15, 35 pts.) were victorious 2-0 over Atlanta United FC (5-12-13, 27 pts)  on Saturday afternoon.

The match kicked off at 7:30 p.m. ET at Gillette Stadium to a crowd of 25,000.

The match kicked off with New England Revolution starting from the center circle as they elected to swiftly move the ball into Atlanta’s defensive third.

New England had the first chance of the match when a delivery into the area by Brandon Bye was missed by Tomás Chancalay. The ball then fell for Alhassan Yusuf, and his effort went wide of the net.

In the 9th minute, Revolution defender Brayan Ceballos was issued a yellow card for pulling back Miguel Almirón.

Saba Lobjanidze had the freekick opportunity less than a minute later that snuck just wide of the left post.

Atlanta had yet another chance in the 15th minute when Saba Lobjanidze drove down the left flank by Brandon Bye, drove inside, and unleashed a low-driven shot that was saved comfortably by Matt Turner.

Aleksey Miranchuk had the next chance for Atlanta in the 19th minute when his shot just missed the right of the net.

Tomás Chancalay had the next opportunity for New England just three minutes later when his effort with the outside of his left foot went wide of the net.

New England’s next chance came in the 35th minute when an ambitious long-distant effort by Tomás Chancalay was comfortably claimed by goalkeeper Jayden Hibbert.

Atlanta had the best chance of the match in the 38th minute when a low-driven shot by Steven Alzate was saved low by Matt Turner. The ball then fell for Jamal Thiaré less than six yards from the goal and he put his effort wide. Thiaré was later deemed offsides.

Less than a minute later, Tomás Chancalay had a selfish run down the right flank and forced a shot rather than passing and it was claimed comfortably by goalkeeper Jayden Hibbert.

After the initial 45 minutes, the match entered halftime with the scoreline level at 0-0.

The second half kicked off with Atlanta United starting from the center circle as they swiftly advanced the ball into New England’s defensive third.

In the 46th minute, Revolution midfielder Allan Oyirwoth was issued a yellow card for a foul on Jamal Thiaré.

Atlanta had the first chance of the second half when Bartosz Slisz’ effort was blocked away by Tanner Beason.

Less than a minute later, Atlanta United defender Stian Gregerson was issued a yellow card for a foul on Tomás Chancalay.

New England’s best chance of the match came in the 50th minute when a poor giveaway at the back led to an un-contested shot by Luca Langoni that struck the crossbar.

Less than a minute later, Carles Gil had yet another close-range effort that went just wide of the net.

In the 56th minute, Revolution interim head coach Pablo Moreira made his first change of the match by replacing Tomás Chancalay & Allan Oyirwoth with Dor Turgeman & Alhassan Yusuf. This is Dor Turgeman’s MLS debut

Pedro Amador had the next chance for Atlanta United when his effort less than a minute after the substitutions just missed to the right of the net.

Dor Turgeman had his first involvement in the match just after the 60th minute when he took on Stian Gregersen and sent him to the ground.

In the 64th minute, Atlanta United head coach Ronny Deila made his first change of the match by replacing Jamal Thiaré with Emmanuel Latte Lath.

Less than a minute later, Revolution interim head coach Pablo Moreira made his third change by replacing Luca Langoni with Leo Campana.

New England had multiple chances to break the deadlock in the 66th minute when Leo Campana, Dor Turgeman, and Carles Gil’s efforts were cleared away.

Will Sands had a massive curling chance less than a minute later that forced a diving save by goalkeeper Jayden Hibbert. The ball then fell for Brandon Bye, but he wasn’t anticipating the ball and missed his lines.

Mamadou Fofana had yet another amazing chance in the 68th minute when a toe-ball effort was deflected away and out for a corner kick.

In the 70th minute, Revolution defender Will Sands was issued a yellow card for a harsh foul on Ronald Hernandez.

Entering the 72nd minute, New England took the lead.

Forward Dor Turgeman drove down the center of the park, dropped Gregersen & Hernandez and then unleashed a rocket into the top right corner to make it 1-0 to New England.

Bartosz Slisz had the next chance for Atlanta when his effort was blocked away by defender Mamadou Fofana.

Entering the 75th minute, New England added to their lead.

Goalkeeper Matt Turner found forward Dor Turgeman on the left flank and allowed him to drive down the pitch for the simple square the ball for forward Leo Campana for the simple finish into the top right corner to make it 2-0 to New England.

In the 77th minute, Atlanta United midfielder Pedro Amador was issued a yellow card.

In the 82nd minute, Atlanta United head coach Ronny Deila made a triple change by replacing Ronald Hernandez Steven Alzate & Saba Lobjanidze with Tristan Muyamba, Brooks Lennon & Leo Afonso.

In the 88th minute, Revolution interim head coach Pablo Moreira made his fourth and fifth change by replacing Carles Gil & Will Sands with Andrew Farrell & Jackson Yueill.

In the 90+4 minute, Atlanta United head coach Ronny Deila made his final change by replacing Stian Gregersen with Enea Mihaj.

After the 90+6 minutes, the match concluded with New England holding on to the 2-0 victory.

New England are already eliminated from the MLS Cup Playoffs.
