The match kicked off with New England starting from the center circle as they elected to build through the midfield to begin the match.
Columbus Crew had the first chance of the match in the 5th minute when Taha Habroune drove into the box, nutmegged Matt Polster & looked to have an effort on target that was blocked away by defender Brayan Ceballos.
New England’s first chance came just 3 minutes later when a Luca Langoni delivery into the area just missed the head of Leo Campana and then the ball fell for Ignatius Ganago and was sent just wide of the net.
Columbus’ next chance came in the 13th minute Taha Habroune connected with Dylan Chambost who then managed to slide the ball in-behind for Ibrahim Aliyu who then looked for a chipped effort that went just wide of the net.
Dániel Gazdag had a chance just 4 minutes later when his effort towards goal was saved away by goalkeeper Matt Turner and then cleared.
Entering the 25th minute, New England took the lead.

Midfielder Carles Gil drove towards the box and found midfielder Luca Langoni making a run where he managed to receive the ball and then elected to slide the ball across the six-yard box to find Leo Campana wide-open for the simple finish.
Dylan Chambost had Columbus’ next chance in the 30th minute when his long-distant effort with his left footed went high over the bar.
Max Arfsten had the next chance for Columbus when a delivery towards the back post was headed just wide of the net by Arfsten.
Entering the 39th minute, New England added to their lead.

Defender Mamadou Fofana managed to ping a beautiful long-ball over the top that found midfielder Ignatius Ganago, who then managed to beat two defenders and slot the ball past goalkeeper Patrick Schulte.
Less than 3 minutes later, Luca Langoni got in-behind and had a breakaway attempt where he attempted to chip Patrick Schulte, however, his effort was denied.
Ilay Feingold had the last chance of the half for either side when Carles Gil slid the ball to him inside the box which allowed Feingold to have a strike towards goal that hit the upper right corner of the outside of the goal.
In the 45+2 minute, Revolution midfielder Matt Polster was issued a yellow card.
After 45 minutes, the match entered halftime with the scoreline level at 0-0.

The second half kicked off with Columbus Crew SC starting from the center circle as they elected to launch the ball into New England’s defensive third.
In the 47th minute, Revolution midfielder Carles Gil was issued a yellow card.
Dániel Gazdag had the next chance for the Crew in the 49th minute when he received the ball inside the penalty area and sent his effort just wide of the post.
Just 3 minutes later, Diego Rossi had an effort of his own that was saved in the center of the goal by goalkeeper Matt Turner.
In the 56th minute, Columbus Crew head coach Wilfried Nancy made his first change of the match by replacing Ibrahim Aliyu with Wessam Abou Ali. This is Ali’s MLS debut.

Just six minutes later, in the 62nd minute, Revolution head coach Caleb Porter made his first change of the match by replacing Ignatius Ganago with Tanner Beason.
In the 68th minute, Columbus Crew head coach Wilfried Nancy made his second, third, and fourth changes of the match by replacing Taha Habroune, Andrés Herrera, & Dylan Chambost with Yevhen Cheberko, Lassi Lappalainen, & Jacsen Russell-Rowe.
New England had a massive chance in the 69th minute when Leo Campana had a 1-on-1 with Patrick Schulte and the ball was cleared for Carles Gil, who then had a long-distant effort that just missed.

Midfielder Dániel Gazdag received a cross into the box and finished the play off with right footed finish past goalkeeper Matt Turner to make it 2-1.
In the 74th minute, Revolution head coach Caleb Porter made his second & third changes of the match by replacing Peyton Miller & Luca Langoni with Will Sands & Tomás Chancalay.
Tomás Chancalay had a long-range effort in the 76th minute that just missed the net.
Sean Zawadski had an extremely close chance in the 81st minute that snuck just wide of the net.

In the 84th minute, Crew defender Steven Moreira was issued a yellow card.
Less than one minute later, Columbus Crew head coach Wilfried Nancy made his final change of the match by replacing Steven Morreira with Cesar Ruvalcaba.
Max Arfsten had a great chance just a minute later when his effort towards goal was saved by a diving Matt Turner.
Diego Rossi had the next chance for Columbus in the 90+1 minute that was deflected just wide of the right post.
After the 90+5 minutes, the match concluded with New England holding on for the 2-1 victory.
