Revs comeback from 3-goal deficit, Maxi Urruti scores 93rd minute equalizer

FOXBOROUGH, MA– New England Revolution (6-6-6, 24 pts) battled to a 3-3 versus Colorado Rapids (6-5-8, 23 pts) on Saturday night.

The match kicked off at 7:30 p.m. ET at Gillette Stadium to a crowd of 30,000.

Starting XI versus Colorado Rapids.

The match kicked off with Colorado Rapids starting from the center circle. They immediately launched the ball into New England’s left-flank.

Josh Atencio had the first chance of the match when his long distant effort in the was deflected out for a corner kick.

Peyton Miller had the next chance of the match when Alhassan Yusuf found him entering the box. His shot was met with a spectacular save by goalkeeper Nicholas Defreitas-Hansen.

In the 8th minute, Revolution defender Keegan Hughes was issued a yellow card for a harsh foul on Rafael Navarro. The ensuing freekick right outside the area was stuffed by the Revolution wall.

In the 21st minute, drama ensued when Brayan Ceballos collided with goalkeeper Nicholas Defreitas-Hansen during a corner kick. Defender Wyatt Omsberg played the role of enforcer and was met with a shoving match by Reggie Cannon. No players were cautioned & Ceballos continued to play in the match.

Entering the 28th minute, Colorado gained the lead.

Rafael Navarro danced around defender Peyton Miller, passed it wide to Josh Atencio, who then squared it centrally to Ted Ku-Dipietro, who had a shot that was initially saved by Aljaž Ivačič and then blasted home from close-range by Calvin Harris.

Carles Gil had the next chance for New England in the 32nd minute when he drove toward the penalty area and unleashed a left-footed shot that was met with a shaky save by goalkeeper Nicholas Defreitas-Hansen.

In the 39th minute, New England Revolution head coach Caleb Porter was forced to make his first change of the match by replacing Tomás Chancalay with Luca Langoni.

Less than one minute later, Colorado added to their lead.

Forward Rafael Navarro burned Wyatt Omsberg and Brandon Bye before a low-driven finish into the bottom right corner to make it 2-0.

New England’s next chance came in the 42nd minute when a free kick delivery into the area by Carles Gil was headed away to Peyton Miller. His effort was then deflected out for a corner kick.

Less than a minute later, Leo Campana then had a chance to pull one back for New England when his left-footed effort from outside the area just missed the right post.

Luca Langoni had another chance for New England entering the 45+6 minute when his low-driven effort was met with a kick save by goalkeeper Nicolas Defreitas-Hansen.

Less than 30 seconds later, Leo Campana had a great headed effort from a corner kick by Carles Gil but it was met with a spectacular save once again by Nicolas Defreitas-Hansen.

After 45+8 minutes, the match entered halftime with Colorado Rapids ahead 2-0.

The second half kicked off with New England starting from the center circle and decided to build out of the back to begin the half.

The first moment of the second half was when goalkeeper Nicolas Defreitas-Hansen collided with Leo Campana in the 54th minute. Both players would continue in the match.

Less than a minute later, entering the 55th minute, Colorado added to their lead.

Forward Ted Ku-DiPietro drove toward the box and unleashed a right-footed shot that went into the bottom right corner past Aljaž Ivačič to make it 3-0.

Just 2 minutes later, entering the 57th minute, New England pulled one back.

Following a delivery into the area by Carles Gil, the ball was deflected into the net by defender Sam Vines for the own goal. 3-1.

Midfielder Carles Gil had another massive opportunity when he drove toward the box and unleashed a left-footed curler that was met with a spectacular save by goalkeeper Nicolas Defretias-Hansen.

Matt Polster had yet another chance just 30 seconds later when a corner kick delivery by Carles Gil was headed and just missed the right post.

In the 62nd minute, New England Revolution head coach Caleb Porter made his second & third change of the match by replacing Leo Campana & Brandon Bye with Maxi Urruti & Ilay Feingold.

Just five minutes later, in the 67th minute, Colorado Rapids head coach Christopher Armas made his first change by replacing Ted Ku-DiPietro for Sam Bassett.

In the 74th minute, Colorado Rapids head coach Christopher Armas made his second and third change by replacing Darren Yapi & Sam Vines with Keegan Rosenberry & Connor Ronan.

Drama ensued again in the 77th minute when Carles Gil & Maxi Urruti got physical with Andreas Maxsø after Chidozie Awaziem was tackled off the field and then went back on the field to waste time. Maxsø, Gil, & Awaziem were all issued yellow cards.

Peyton Miller had another chance to score when his headed effort went high over the net in the 80th minute.

Less than a minute later, New England head coach Caleb Porter made his final two changes by replacing Wyatt Omsberg & Peyton Miller with Tanner Beason & Luis Díaz.

Entering the 83rd minute, New England were given a penalty kick.

Midfielder Carles Gil stepped up to take the penalty. His left-footed effort was buried into the bottom right corner past Nicholas Defreitas-Hansen to make it 3-2.

Luis Díaz had a low-driven rocket effort toward the bottom right corner just one minute later that was saved by Nicholas Defreitas-Hansen out for a corner kick.

Díaz had another chance when a headed effort from close range from the ensuing corner kick was caught by Defreitas-Hansen.

Entering the 90+3 minute, New England leveled the scoreline.

Defender Tanner Beason sent a ball into the area that was headed home by Maxi Urruti to make it 3-3.

In the 90+4 minute, Colorado defender Reggie Cannon was issued a yellow card for a foul on Maxi Urruti.

After the 90+8 minutes, the match concluded in an unbelievable 3-3 draw.

With the result, New England remain in 11th place in the MLS Eastern Conference.
