FOXBOROUGH, MA– New England Revolution (5-3-4, 17 pts in MLS) were defeated 3-1 versus Chicago Fire FC (5-4-4, 19 pts in MLS) in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup on Saturday Afternoon.
The match kicked off at 7:30 p.m. ET at Chapey Field at Anderson Stadium to a crowd of 2,000.

Midfielder Jonathan Bamba drove into the area and took a shot that was deflected by Eric Klein and in past goalkeeper Alex Bono to make it 1-0 to Chicago.
Liam Butts had a long distant effort in the 42nd minute to try and level the scoreline, however, his effort went wide right of the net.
After 45+1 minutes, the match entered halftime with the Chicago ahead 1-0.

The second half kicked off with New England starting from the center circle and elected to build out of the back to start the half.
New England had the first chance of the 2nd half when midfielder Cristiano Oliveira drove down the center of the park and unleashed a left-footed shot in the 52nd minute that struck the crossbar and out for a goal kick.
Damario McIntosh had a chance of his own in the 55th minute when his effort from long distance was comfortably caught by goalkeeper Chris Brady.
Less than one minute later, in the 56th minute, Chicago Fire head coach Gregg Berhalter made his first change by replacing midfielder Dje D’Avilla with midfielder Brian Gutiérrez.
Maren Haile-Selassie had a chance of his own in the 57th minute when his right footed shot skied just over the crossbar.

In the 59th minute, Revolution defender Keegan Hughes was issued a yellow card for fouling Maren Haile-Selassie.
In the 65th minute, Revolution defender Wyatt Omsberg was issued a yellow card for fouling Hugo Cuypers.
Following the foul, Revolution head coach Caleb Porter replaced Liam Butts with Gevork Diarbian.

Midfielder Brian Gutierrez managed to find Hugo Cuypers for the easy finish in the six yard box to make it 2-0 to Chicago.
Following the goal, Chicago Fire head coach Gregg Berhalter made his second & third change by replacing Hugo Cuypers & Jonathan Bamba with Tom Barlow & Philip Zinckernagel.
New England’s next chance came in the 73rd minute when a free kick effort by Jackson Yueill was comfortably saved by goalkeeper Chris Brady.
In the 75th minute, Revolution head coach Caleb Porter made his second and third change of the match by replacing Wyatt Omsberg & Brandon Bye with Marcos Dias & Victor Souza.
Just two minutes later, in the 77th minute, Chicago Fire defender Omari Glasgow was issued a yellow card.

Midfielder Phillip Zinckernagel drove down the middle of the park, cut inside, and buried it into the bottom right corner to make it 3-0 to Chicago Fire.
In the 81st minute, both teams made changes. Chicago Fire head coach Gregg Berhalter made his fourth & fifth change of the match by replacing Andrew Gutman & Jack Elliott with Justin Reynolds & Omar Gonzalez. Revolution head coach Caleb Porter made his fourth and fifth changes by replacing Keegan Hughes & Jackson Yueill with Alex Monis & Hesron Barry.

Providence alumni Gevork Diarbian drove down the left flank, unleashed a left-footed shot that was deflected off Justin Reynolds and in to make it 3-1.
In the 90+3 minute, Revolution midfielder Eric Klein was issued a yellow card.
After 90+3 minutes, the match concluded with Chicago holding on for the 3-1 victory.
