Charlotte FC opens their Leagues Cup campaign with a match on the road against the Philadelphia Union.
Charlotte put together a good run in the inaugural Leagues Cup in 2023, defeating FC Dallas on 4-1 on penalties and defeating Necaxa 4-1 in the group stage, then going on to defeat Cruz Azul 4-3 on penalties in the round of 32 and Houston Dynamo FC 2-1 in the round of 16 before losing 4-0 to Inter Miami in the quarterfinals.
For the 2024 Leagues Cup, Charlotte is in a group with Philadelphia and Cruz Azul. Charlotte is 2-2-2 all time against Philadelphia, winning 2-0 on the road in the most recent matchup and have not scored a goal in either of the two matchups between the teams this season.
Charlotte is coming off three consecutive away matches in MLS play, winning one against FC Cincinnati and drawing two against the Columbus Crew and Austin FC. Karol Świderski was welcomed back to Charlotte in the match against Austin, where he scored a goal.
Philadelphia is coming off back-to-back big wins at home in MLS play, defeating the New England Revolution 5-1 and Nashville SC 3-0.
