Warrington Wolves look to secure a second consecutive league win as they take on Castleford Tigers

After securing a win in what was a history-making game for the sport, Warrington Wolves now face Castleford Tigers in their first competitive home fixture of the season.

The Wolves narrowly won their season opener against a hard-battling Leeds Rhinos, with the game the first Betfred Super League fixture to be broadcasted as part of Channel 4’s new TV deal.

A late try from Connor Wrench was followed by a Stefan Ratchford conversion just five minutes from time which gave the Wire a 22-20 victory over the tough to break down Rhinos.

As for Castleford, they were backed by a bumper crowd of 10,500 at The Mend-A-Hose Jungle as the fans watched their opener against Salford Red Devils.

However, the Devils spoilt the opening day party as they won 26-16 away from home to mark an impressive start to the 2022 campaign.

Despite taking the lead, Cas will be disappointed with their first performance of the season after having a number of memorable performances and results last campaign.

The clash between the Wolves and Tigers will see a number of old faces collide as new Warrington Head Coach Daryl Powell as well Peter Mata’utia take on their old club for the first time.

With Powell having been at Castleford for eight years, it was huge news to hear that the 56-year-old would be moving to the Halliwell Jones. He will be keen however to get one over on his old side and remind himself why he decided to end his long stint in Yorkshire.

As for team news, Warrington will be without Oliver Holmes who serves the first of a two-match suspension for a Grade B offence that he received against Leeds last weekend.

Daryl Clark also misses out under concussion protocols having come off with a head knock last time out.

The Tigers will be without Nathan Massey and Danny Richardson but there are positives with youngsters Sam Hall and Cain Robb who have both been named in Lee Radford’s 21-man squad for the first time in 2022.

With Wire getting off to a solid start, they will be keen to continue that in front of their home fans whilst Cas will be hoping to get one over on their old coach whilst also kickstarting their 2022 campaign.
