The Frenchmen has made the move to the Huddersfield Giants following a very successful five years with St Helens.
Having spent five successful years at the Saints from 2016 to 2021, the half-back leaves the Merseyside club with three Super League titles, one Challenge Cup trophy and two League Leaders Shields. He is now set for a new challenge in Yorkshire at the Huddersfield Giants under Head Coach, Ian Watson.
It has been an off-season of change at the Giants with a number of players coming and going. Notably, the half-back pairing of Aidan Sezer and Lee Gaskell has left the club with two former Salford Red Devils, Theo Fages and Tui Lolohea replacing them. It usually takes time for two players who have not played together to ‘click’ in attack, however, Fages is pleased with how his partnership with Lolohea is progressing.
“I think it will be good. We are training really well, obviously, we haven’t played together before so the game we had at the weekend was good for me and him, we are doing really well. We both know we are different players of some kind, but we complement each other all the time, and help each other out which will be good for when the season starts and the team pushes for play-offs”.
The pair will have to make sure they are at their best as one thing Huddersfield are not short of are keen young halves waiting in the wings for an opportunity. Last season saw the team in Claret and Gold allow two of Super League’s youngest stars, Will Pryce and Oliver Russell, to lead the team around the field.
Pryce is set to start the season in a new role at full-back with Russell and Jack Clogger waiting for their opportunity. Fages knows he has to be at his best with the talent in the squad.
“[Will] Pryce has been good, Jack Clogger as well alongside Oliver Russell too. It’s been a hard pre-season, you’ve got to be at your best and that’s what we are aiming for. We want to keep everyone on their toes, fighting for positions, we can only get better by doing that, and by training hard”.
Ian Watson’s side have faced Dewsbury Rams and Batley Bulldogs so far this pre-season. They are set to face Super League opposition in Hull Kingston Rovers this weekend before they open the new campaign with a trip to the newly-promoted Toulouse Olympique in Round One.
