Who could Chelsea sign in this summer’s transfer window?

Chelsea are set to spend big in the transfer market to bolster their squad ahead of the new season.

After their Champions League success in May the Blues will be looking to improve the team ahead of the 2021/22 season, in which a Premier League title challenge is on the cards.

The arrival of Thomas Tuchel in January saw the revival of a squad who were struggling over the festive period, and come the end of the campaign he helped the club secure their second Champions League title and a top four finish in the league.

Chelsea’s continental glory will surely give them huge momentum heading into the new season, but who will they sign in the coming weeks to help challenge for more titles?

Striker

The Blues have been linked with one of world football’s brightest talents for a long time now, and this summer could see the arrival of Erling Haaland at Stamford Bridge.

The 20-year-old Norwegian has scored 57 goals in 59 appearances since joining Borussia Dortmund in 2020, making him one of the most prolific players in Europe.

He has been heavily linked with a move to Manchester City, especially considering his father used to play for the Citizens, but recent reports show signs that Haaland could be on his way to SW6 very soon.

Another name rumoured to be on Chelsea’s radar is Romelu Lukaku.

The Belgian joined Chelsea back in 2011 as a youngster and had loan spells at West Brom and Everton, before permanently moving to the latter in 2014.

He joined Inter Milan in 2019 and impressed under former Blues boss Antonio Conte, thus sparking rumours he may rejoin Chelsea, although he is said to be happy to stay at I Nerazurri.

Midfielder

West Ham’s Declan Rice has once again been linked with a move to Chelsea.

He spent the majority of his youth career at the Blues before being released in 2014 and subsequently joined the Hammers’ academy.

Rice broke into the first team just a year later and has been a key member of the squad ever since, including being named as the club vice-captain.

It is a well known fact that Rice and Mason Mount are best friends and grew up in the Blues academy together, so there is a strong chance that Chelsea’s no.19 may persuade him to make a return to the Bridge.

Eduardo Camavinga is another hot talent in world football and is currently on Chelsea’s radar.

The Blues played against him in last season’s Champions League group stage against Rennes, so certainly know just how good he is.

At just 18-years-old, he would certainly be a solid investment for the future and would be able to learn a lot from the Blues’ current midfield options.

Defender

Although Chelsea’s defence remained solid and resolute through most of the season, a new defensive option wouldn’t go amiss and one player who has been linked with the Blues before is Real Madrid’s Raphael Varane.

The Frenchman has been at the Spanish giants for ten years and has also attracted interest from Manchester United, so it wouldn’t be an easy deal.

Thiago Silva was a key member in the Blues backline last season but at 36 his best footballing days may soon be over, so a younger addition like Varane would be a sensible move.

An alternative option could be Jules Kounde.

Also French, the 22-year-old already has a depth of experience at the top level for Sevilla, who he joined from Bordeaux back in 2019.

Kounde signing would be yet another young addition to the squad, giving Chelsea the chance to grow and develop a team for years to come.
