The Prema Racing driver claimed “it will be even more important” to be consistent this season with the revised weekend format, the Norwegian claimed pole position in qualifying ahead of Sunday’s Feature Race.
Speaking exclusively to Prost International’s Cameron Anderson-Jones, pole-sitter Dennis Hauger, second-place Jack Doohan and third place Victor Martins shared their thoughts ahead of the 2021/22 season.
Question to Dennis Hauger – With the newly revised weekend format, do you think it will take something different to be Champion this year compared to last?
“I think overall is it about consistency during a championship but I think it will be even more important now with the format.
“We have got three races and two of them are reversed, so it is going to be important to play it smart and keep it calm throughout the season.
“It will be even more strategic season but in the end you have to get the point and stay at the front. So it’s the same but different.”
Question to Jack Doohan – 2020 was a tricky year and you have changed team for 2021, what is the difference in how your team operate this year compared to last and how do they extract the best out of you?
“For me I am getting along really well with the team, we are gelling really well together the Italians and Australians have a little similar traits.
“I think they have the drive and determination as much as I do to win, so we are all pushing together to get the end goal which is really good.
“I gel really well with the car, I feel that each team has slightly a different balance or driving style and for me it really gels well and I can extract the potential.
“They’ve helped me with my weaknesses, Barcelona has never been a strong circuit for me, one of my weakest was sector three.
“Most of the test I was purple in most sessions, it is one of my stronger sectors now. Its good they’ve been able to bring me on as well and hopefully we continue this for the season”
Question to Victor Martins – We saw you place your car into third when the track was a lot quicker, was this decision yours or the teams as it clearly paid off?
“It was mainly the team that made the decision, with the GPS they can see what each driver is doing what
“They wanted us to have no traffic and a clearer last lap to put a really good lap in the end but it is a bit exciting and when you see cars out on track with yourself in the pits, with the clock going quick, you want to go out.
“You need to stay calm to the plan and believe in your team, the trust in I and the team is pretty high so I knew with a clean lap we would be near the top.”
The drivers will now complete two Sprint Races on Saturday which will see the top three start in 12th, 11th and 10th for the first Sprint Race.
Hauger will start from pole position in Sunday’s Feature Race with Doohan alongside him and debutant Martins in third.
There are many changes to this season’s format, the first is that the top twelve will be reversed from qualifying for Race One on Saturday.
