Leicester hope to strengthen place in top four against Brighton

Leicester City welcome Brighton and Hove Albion to the King Power Stadium in the opening match of the midweek Premier League fixtures.

Both sides had contrasting fortunes on their return to Premier League action at the weekend. Craig Dawson’s acrobatic effort in stoppage time cancelled out Ben Chilwell’s powerful strike, meaning the Foxes left Watford’s Vicarage Road with a point.

There was also drama in added time at the AMEX, but it would be euphoric, rather than despair where Neal Maupay slotted home to give Brighton a much needed victory over Arsenal.

It leaves the Seagulls five points clear of the drop zone. But with a congested eight games in the space of 34 days to come, Graham Potter’s men are nowhere near safe.

Leicester manager Brendan Rodgers said he was pleased with the performance on Saturday, but would have been disappointed to have conceded right at the death. No doubt he will hoping his side will make amends in their first home game since March 9.

Victory for the hosts would move them six points clear of fourth placed Chelsea, who have a testing match against Manchester City on Thursday. It would also take them 11 clear of Manchester United and Wolves, moving them one step closer to Champions League qualification.

A win for the away side, would move them eight points clear of the bottom three, towards a fourth consecutive season in the top flight.

Team news

Leicester will be without their star right-back Ricardo Pereira who will most likely miss the rest of the season with a knee injury he sustained back in March. Daniel Amartey is also out as he continues to recover from his ankle injury, but Denis Praet is a maybe after he picked up a calf problem.

Brighton will still be without Jose Izquierdo who has been out with a knee injury, but Steven Alzate and Ali Jahanbakhsh could return, after missing the win over Arsenal

Brendan Rodgers on what is a big week for the club

“It’s important, but they’re all important, but we’ll make our assessment at the end of the season. We got off to a decent start, now we’ve got a chance to pick up three points and we have to be hungry for that. Two big games but you can only look at your next game.”

Graham Potter on his decision to leave out Alzate and Jahanbakhsh

“Steven felt a little bit of soreness last week in the (in-house training) game.”

“We just took it a bit careful with him. He will be coming into contention for the game on Tuesday.

“So will Ali. Ali was unlucky. It is just tactical and again he is one who will be available for the next game.”

Match Facts

This will be the sixth Premier League meeting between Leicester and Brighton. Leicester have won four of them, including a 2-0 win at the AMEX back in November.

Leicester also have a strong home record too, wining nine and drawing three of their 15 games played at the King Power this season. Brighton have struggled on the road though, winning just two away games all season.

However, in the 11 matches played so far since the Premier League’s return, only three home sides have won.

Brighton’s top scorer Neal Maupay will be hoping to make it into double figures for the season, while Leicester’s Jamie Vardy is the Premier League’s leading scorer. A goal tomorrow would put him onto 20 for the season and would send him into the Premier League 100 club.
