Red Bull New York 4-1 San Diego FC
HARRISON, NJ–Red Bull New York faced San Diego FC for the very first time in what was a thrilling encounter. The Red Bulls came out victorious with a 4-1 victory at Sports Illustrated Stadium.
Julian Hall, Devin Padelford, Jorge Ruvalcaba and Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting all found the net to earn Michael Bradley’s side the three points.
Ethan Horvath was also on form, making a huge stop from the penalty stop to deny Anders Dreyer.
Red Bulls started off the game positively and it took just 15 minutes for them to take the lead. Hall was there to tap in from close range and finish off a well worked move. The 18 year old is fresh off scoring three goals for his country and was back amongst the scoring with his club. This was his 14th goal of the season across all competitions.
Just four minutes later, Red Bulls would have their second. Padelford headed in from a Cade Cowell corner after being left completely unmarked, scoring his first goal for the club since joining on loan from Minnesota United.
Red Bulls were flying, and they quickly added a third. Ronald Donkor slipped in Ruvalcaba who turned and smashed into the net from an almost impossible angle, putting his side three goals up with just 26 minutes on the clock.
Just before the break, San Diego were awarded a penalty. Julian Bazan tripped Marcus Ingvartsen giving Dreyer a chance to get the visitors back into the game.
Ethan Horvath got down to his left and made an amazing save to keep the score at 3-0.
San Diego would find a goal back through Cedric Bakambu who came on at half time. The DR Congo international tapped in from Dreyer’s cross to try and give his side some hope of rescuing something from the game.
RBNY completely dominated the match and it would be a performance that Michael Bradley will certainly be pleased with.
Choupo-Moting capped off the scoring after a brilliant piece of skill gave him the chance to slot past Carlos Dos Santos in stoppage time. This was the former Bayern Munich man’s fourth goal of the season.

RBNY will now travel to face off against DC United on Wednesday October 14.
