FC Dallas win wild Texas Derby over Houston

FC Dallas 4-3 Houston Dynamo

FRISCO, TX–It was a wild night Saturday at Toyota Stadium. Logan Farrington scored twice, then Houston scored thrice, and Petar Musa figured into the comeback as FC Dallas rallied for a 4-3 win over Houston Dynamo.  It’s the fourth home match in FCD’s first five matches and they have gone 2-0-2 in those matches and are eighth at 2-1-2. Houston is one spot below at 2-2-0.

Logan Farrington got the game’s first two goals in the sixth and 14th minutes. The first goal saw Farrington got on the end of a  long ball from Shaquell Moore before beating Jonathan Bond. Eight minutes later, a nice connection from Joaquin Valiente to Herman Johansson to Farrington made it 2-0 and it looked like FCD would go on a rout.

However, Houston would go on to see those two goals and raise them one all in a span of four minutes. In the 29th minute, a bad misplay from Michael Collodi led to Guilherme coming in and pulling one back for the visitors. Two minutes later, Guilherme turned provider as his corner would find the head of Erik Sviatchenko to level the score. Two minutes after that, it would be another spectacular assist from Guilherme–this time a thru ball to Lawrence Ennali to give Houston the lead.

Petar Musa ended the match as a halftime substitution after taking a knock earlier in the week. He would end up making the impact that he has been this season so far. In the 57th minute, Musa came down the flank to find Farrington, but the ball would deflect off Duane Holmes and in for an own goal. It was initially ruled out for offside, but VAR confirmed that Petar Musa was onside in the buildup receiving the ball and the goal was given.

Houston would soon find themselves a man down as Sviatchenko picked up his second yellow card. In the 86th minute, they would be down for good as Valiente sent a cross that Musa would bundle it in from close range to give FCD the lead and eventually the win.

After the international break, FC Dallas will go on the road for the second time this season when they face DC United on Saturday, April 4th. Kickoff is at 6:30pm CT on Apple TV. Houston will host Seattle Sounders at 7:30pm CT on Apple TV that night.
