Campana, 25, was set to join head coach Sebastián Beccacece’s side for a pair of international friendly matches versus Morocco (Friday, March 27) & Netherlands (Tuesday, March 31).

The young forward who had missed the two previous games due to a “lower body” injury returned to action off the bench on Saturday versus St. Louis City SC.

He entered the match in the 59th minute but was replaced due to injury in the 78th minute.

Official Statement regarding Campana from the Ecuadorian Football Federation.

On Sunday, March 22nd, Ecuador released an official statement detailing Campana’s withdrawal from the squad.

“The Ecuadorian Football Federation reports that, during a match played with his club, player Leonardo Campana suffered a hamstring injury. Consequently, he has been withdrawn from the squad for this FIFA international window.”

“The medical staff will closely monitor his progress. We wish Leo a speedy recovery.”

Campana last featured for Ecuador in November friendlies where he scored his first international goal in a 90-minute outing versus New Zealand.

La Tricolor has already qualified for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, clinching their berth last June.

There is no official statement or timetable from New England Revolution on Campana’s current status.

His 2026 FIFA World Cup status could be in jeopardy.
