Colorado Rapids 6-2 Houston Dynamo

COMMERCE CITY, CO–The Rapids maintained their 100% record at home by tying a club record six goals in a league match as they thrashed Houston Dynamo, 6-2, at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park. It is the first time they scored six in a match since 2019 when they beat CF Montreal, 6-3.

The fun started five minutes in when Dante Sealy’s cross initially missed Darren Yapi, but Kosi Thompson came in with the follow through and put the ball in for the opening score on his Rapids debut. Twelve minutes later, Houston’s attempt to play the ball out of the back resulted in a turnover that led to Josh Atencio scoring from just outside the box.

Guilherme had three great chances to pull one back in the first half, but two were stopped by Zack Steffen and a third his the post. Instead, the Dynamo would go three down in the 53rd minute after Thompson’s shot took a deflection and then past Jonathan Bond into the net.

Houston did pull one back in the 69th minute as Lawrence Ennali curled a shot past Steffen to make it 3-1. Four minutes later, it was back to a three-goal game as Rafael Navarro’s shot took a deflection off a defender past Steffen. Sadly for Houston, that would not be the end of the unlucky deflections as Felipe Andrade knocked in Noah Cobb’s cross to make it 5-1.

Guilherme would get a consolation goal in stoppage time, but Navarro would add a penalty five minutes into second half stoppage time.

Next up for the Rapids ia a trip to Empower Field at Mile High Stadium to take on Inter Miami next Saturday. Kickoff is at 2:30pm MT on Apple TV.
