2021 marks the clubs’ 40th anniversary since their first ever promotion to the top flight under John Toshack.
The former Liverpool striker guided Swansea to third in the Second Division, with that promotion coming within four years of being in the fourth tier.
Toshack’s men joined West Ham and Notts County in the top flight, and were tipped as the perennial basement boys of the league.
Bets were quickly scrapped and changed, however, as Toshack’s men crushed Leeds United 5-1 in the opening fixture. Robert Latchford bagged a hattrick that day, with Jeremy Charles and Alan Curtis completing the scoring.
The season continued in a surreal fashion for the Swans, with victories over the dominant Liverpool, Arsenal, Manchester United and Tottenham defying the odds even further.
Key injuries meant they would finish sixth, but this remains their highest ever top-flight finish.
The club released on social media today that they would be commemorating the achievements by Toshack and co. with a commemorative change of logo.
“Amazing”, “keep it forever” and “that is class” were just a taster of reactions from Swansea fans, who seem enthused and in adoration of their new badge.
More news is set to be announced tomorrow via the club’s official channels.
