Five star romp for Belgium over USA

USA 2-5 Belgium

ATLANTA, GA–It was promising for a while for the US Men’s National Team as Weston McKennie scored in the 39th minute to put the USA ahead of Belgium at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, but Belgium would respond with five unanswered goals and take a 5-2 win in the penultimate match before the squads are finalized for this summer’s Men’s World Cup.

McKennie directed in a corner from Antonee Robinson who was making his first appearance for the USA in 16 months. Belgium’s comeback began just before halftime as Zeno Debast shot one from 30 yards out that went through traffic and just got by Matt Turner for the equalizer.

Seven minutes into the second half, Belgium took the lead as Amadou Onana scored from point blank range. It would be the start of three goals in 15 minutes. That included a penalty kick from Charles de Ketelaere after Tim Ream was called for handball in the area. Then, Dodi Lukebakio shot a curler from the right side to make it 4-1. He would add a second in the 82nd minute to make it 5-1 before Patrick Agyemang added a late consolation for the USA.

The USA will look to recover on Tuesday against Portugal in Atlanta at 7pm ET on TNT, TruTV, and HBO Max in England and Telemundo and Peacock in Spanish. Belgium move on to Chicago at Soldier Field on Tuesday to take on Mexico (7pm CT, TUDN).
