2019-2020 Premier League Fixtures Released: Manchester United host Chelsea in game one

In the first week of the 2019-2020 Premier League season, Chelsea will have to travel to Old Trafford to face Ole Gunnar Solskjær’s Manchester United, with the two meeting on Sunday, 11th of August.

Elsewhere Liverpool start off their campaign by facing Championship winners Norwich City in the opening game of the season, as the two meet on Friday, 9th of  August.

Title winners Manchester City will travel to the London Stadium a day later as they start their bid to retain the title for the third season in a row.

Arsenal face Newcastle as they make the trip to St. James’ Park on Sunday, 11th of August while the final top six side Tottenham Hotspur host play-off winners Aston Villa, as Villa hope to gain safety in the top-flight for the first time since the 2014-2015 season.

Sheffield United the final promoted side from last season’s Championship campaign start their season off in the south coast as they travel to Bournemouth.

The first week of fixtures:

For the first time ever the English top-flight will have a mid-season break, as the league hopes to prepare players for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

The break which will be stretched over a two-week time frame in February. Five matches from the weekend will be played, with the final five games being played the next weekend. This allows each team a week off, as the winter break has finally been introduced to English football.

All the major European leagues (Bundesliga, Serie A, Ligue 1 and La Liga) already have a winter break, due to the football associations of those countries believing that a break will help their sides in the Champions League and Europa League.

This season will also see the introduction of Video assistant referees (VAR) after trials in the FA Cup and Carabao Cup.
