Liverpool were coming off four loses in a row in all competitions after a very impressive seven-match winning run start to the season. On a wet night in Frankfurt The Reds started off solid enough in a cauldron of noise from the great Frankfurt fans. Within 10 minutes Isak found himself straight through but hit his effort straight at the keeper.

Liverpool had a lot of the possession in the early stages but Frankfurt looked very dangerous on the break and Liverpool’s weaknesses at the back showed up again in the 26th minute. A quick break from left to right and the ball came over to Kristensen on the right and he came inside and from the edge of the 18 yard box shot through Robertson legs and across the Liverpool goal hitting the bottom corner like an arrow to make it 1-0 on the night.

Given Liverpool’s recent bad form and lack of confidence it was important they didn’t let the early set back get to them. Within 10 minutes they had managed to draw level. Robertson hit a beautiful ball to Ekitike who ran half the pitch with lighting speed to make it 1-1.

Five minutes later Virgil van Dijk made it 2-1 with a bullet header from Liverpool’s sixth corner of the match. Another five minutes passed and it was 3-1 to Liverpool with another header from a corner just before half time from Konate.

Frankfurt looked lost at the back and Liverpool came out for the second half looking like they meant business. Moments after Bradley’s effort was pushed onto the post by the Frankfurt keeper, Liverpool went further ahead after Gakpo side footed a cross-ball into the net to make it 4-1 in the 66th minute. The scoring was completed in the 70th minute by Szoboszlai who made it 5-1 on the night from a long-range shot from outside the box.

Up next for Liverpool in the Champions League is a home tie against Real Madrid in early November.
