The Frenchman, who was part of the World Cup winning squad from last summer’s tournament, is expected to make a big-money move to Atletico’s La Liga rivals Barcelona at the end of the campaign.
This career change comes after year after Griezmann made his famous La Decision video declaring that he was staying at the Wanda Metropolitano over joining Barcelona.
It was once again a Twitter video that announced his decision this time around as Griezmann thanked the Atletico fans for their support during his five years as the club.
Griezmann said on his departure:
“It’s been an incredible five years; Thank you very much for everything, I take you in the heart. “
The 28-year-old has top scored for the red and whites for the last five seasons and won the Europa League, Spanish Super Cup and UEFA Super Cup during his time in the Spanish capital.
He netted 133 goals in 256 Atletico appearances since moving from fellow La Liga side Real Sociedad in 2014.
Griezmann is rumoured to have a 120m euro buy-out clause in his contact which Blaugrana are rumoured to be keen on triggering.
Diego Simeone will be devastated to lose the striker, who follows Diego Godin and Lucas Hernandez out of the club this summer.
Griezmann recently placed third in the Ballon D’Or list for 2018 and will hope that a move to Barcelona will help him fit the status he declared himself during a recent documentary entitled Antoine Griezmann: The Making of a Legend.
