Fulham sack manager Claudio Ranieri

Fulham have sacked manager Claudio Ranieri after winning just three of his 16 games in charge of the Cottagers.

Ranieri took over in November following the departure of Slavisa Jokanovic but, with the Whites ten points from safety with ten game remaining, the Cottagers have sacked the 67-year-old.

The Italian won his first match in charge of the London outfit, beating Southampton 3-2, but has only managed to win two matches since with Fulham now facing the severe threat of relegation to the Sky Bet Championship.

A statement released by the Club from Chairman Shahid Khan said:

“Claudio walked into a difficult situation, inheriting a side that gained only one point in its prior eight matches, and he provided an immediate boost by leading our Club to nine points in his first eight matches as Manager.

“Though we were unable to maintain that pace thereafter, I am grateful for his effort. Claudio leaves Fulham as our friend and he will undoubtedly experience success again soon.”

The Whites will be guided under interim control by Scott Parker. The 38-year-old made 119 appearances for the London side during a four-year spell before retiring from football, he returned to the Club in July 2018 as First Team coach under then manager Jokanovic.
