Barcelona have completed the signing of Ajax midfielder Frenkie de Jong for €75 millon.

The 21-year-old will continue to play for Ajax until the end of the current season, with his move to the Catalan side being formally completed on July 1 2019.

De Jong will move to the Nou Camp on a five-year contract worth €75 million (£65.3 million) plus an additional €11 million in add-ons.

The talented midfielder has been a target for a number of Europe’s elite sides, with Manchester City, Juventus and PSG all joining Barcelona in tracking the Dutch international.

Barcelona’s club website described the versatile midfielder who can also feature in defence as a “polyvalent player with an excellent reading of the game and ability to provide the killer pass”.

De Jong moved to Ajax from Willem II in 2015 and has made 65 appearances for the Dutch giants, as well as representing his country a total of 19 times at U15, U18, U19, U21 and senior level.
