Sterling writes to young fan following racial abuse

Raheem Sterling has sent a heart-warming letter to a young Manchester City fan after the he was racially abused.

Sterling told the fan to “be proud of who you are” after the boy’s grandmother revealed he had been having a “tough time” following the abuse.

“Stand tall, don’t let them take away your courage,” the Man City winger wrote.

“You are strong and very brave and your nanna is also very proud of you. Keep being you kid.”

The England international has been at the centre of several incidents in the last month with him suffering alleged racial abuse in a 2-0 loss to Chelsea before taking to Instagram to call out the media for “fueling racism”.

Sterling also sent the young Blues fan a signed picture of him and ended his letter with:

“Remember speaking up doesn’t always make life easy, but easy never changed anything.”

The 24-year-old wide player has scored nine goals and laid on seven assists so far this season with Pep Guardiola’s men currently second in the table, four points behind leaders Liverpool who they beat 2-1 at the Etihad Stadium earlier this month.
