Emery says Arsenal can only sign players on loan

Unai Emery has said that Arsenal will only be able to bring players in on loan if they to add to their squad in January.

The Arsenal manager was speaking with the media ahead of their game against West Ham United on Saturday and conceded that this window may be less active than in the summer when they brought in six players for a total of £70 million.

“We cannot sign anyone permanently.” The Gunners boss told reporters.

Arsenal have been linked with Barcelona playmaker Denis Suarez but Emery ruled out a move for the midfielder, or any other player, on a permanent basis.

“I do not know his situation,” Said the former Sevilla manager.

“But I know the club is working for the possibility of players who can help us with this condition (on loan).”

A new defender and winger have been on Emery’s shopping list for the winter window with the club slipping in recent weeks after an encouraging start to life under the 47-year-old.

Ever Banega has also been linked with a move to The Emirates. The Argentine midfielder worked with Emery during their time together at Sevilla but the Arsenal manager could not comment on any speculation.

“The club is working, tell me each moment different situations that can happen. At the moment, I haven’t got any news.”
