Ronaldo criticised for celebration as he wins the Turin derby

Cristiano Ronaldo adores the spotlight, adores the attention.

The Portugal and Juventus forward will be on the back pages in Italy this morning after his penalty settled the Turin derby between Juventus and Torino.

The goal has taken Ronaldo’s tally in Serie A to 11 this season, and puts Juventus in an even stronger position to retain the Scudetto yet again. The Old Lady have won 46 of the 48 available points this season, meaning Serie A has already lost it’s title race excitement.

Torino goalkeeper Salvador Ichazo was the man to take down Mario Mandzukic in the area, and despite getting a hand on the resulting spot kick, he could not keep it out.

Then followed a minor flashpoint in the game as Ronaldo seemingly pumped his chest into Ichazo in celebration, which caused Torino tempers to flare.

Ronaldo came into some criticism on social media for his celebration, most notably from former Manchester City and Liverpool striker Mario Balotelli, who used Instagram to claim if it were him, he would have seen red.

There was further controversy in the game as Mandzukic believed to have put the game to bed with an emphatic back post finish, but VAR deemed there to be an offside in the buildup.

Juventus managed to see the game out in a well contested derby, Torino will feel like a more clinical day for them, and the result could have been very different.

Torino stay in sixth place but could drop out of the European spots this weekend, with just three points between themselves and Fiorentina in 12th.
