The results of the voting for the 2022 World Cup have been released.
The USA bid garnered just three votes in the first round, equal with the Japanese. They were already way behind the Qatar vote which took half the electorate, eleven, and was just one short of winning in the very first round.
Australia took just one vote affected by the absence of any voter from Oceania after their delegate was banned for corruption.
With Australia eliminated, Round 2 saw Japan and Qatar lose one of their original votes with the USA picking up two to come to five equal with the Koreans. Japan was therefore eliminated.
Neither of their votes though went to South Korea in Round three, and surprisingly the US picked up one to see Korea eliminated.
That left the USA and Qatar in the final round and the Qataris won that vote 14-8
Round 1: Australia 1 vote, Japan 3 votes, US 3 votes, South Korea 4 votes and Qatar 11 votes.
Round 2: Japan 2 votes, South Korea 5 votes, US 5 votes and Qatar 10 votes.
Round 3 South Korea 5 votes, US 6 votes and Qatar 11 votes.
Round 4 US 8 votes and Qatar 14 votes (Qatar obtain absolute majority)
In the 2018 vote, Russian won on the second round after England’s early elimination.
Round 1: England 2 votes, Netherlands/Belgium 4 votes, Spain/Portugal 7 votes and Russia 9 votes.
Round 2: Netherlands/Belgium 2 votes, Spain/Portugal 7 votes and Russia 13 votes (Russia obtain absolute majority)
