The 22 FIFA delegates chose the winner after several rounds of voting. The United States, Australia, Japan and Korea were the other bidders.
The Qatar bid was rated ‘High Risk’ by the Technical Committee, the only bid to be so voted. They cited concerns that temperatures reach 40 degrees Celsius in the summer.
FIFA are going to release the details of the voting later today, and we will see which delegates voted what way.

Reaction in the English speaking world has not been positive with the twitter-sphere being full of fans speculating that money as opposed to fitness to hold the tournament had been a factor.
Others pondered what the point of the Technical Reports was if they were to be routinely ignored and their findings cast aside. Those involved in the England bid were speculating in the media that their bid was the best, regardless of the outcome.
One expert targeted an ever more recent tournament.
Gavin Hamilton, Editor of World Soccer Magazine speaking on Sky Sports News, raised the possibility that Brazil would not be ready for 2014, and England or the USA could be ‘parachuted in’ at the last minute.
However this could just as easily be interpreted as a disappointed but partisan fan looking for solace and there is little evidence to support his theory.
