FC Dallas 2-1 Portland Timbers
FRISCO, TX–FC Dallas won their third straight match and remain third in the Western Conference following a 2-1 win over Portland Timbers on Saturday at Toyota Stadium. The Timbers remain ninth, though could be overtaken by San Diego who plays Philadelphia on Sunday.
FCD opened the scoring just before halftime. Shaq Moore sent a long ball into the box that was met by Logan Farrington who got in behind the Timbers’ defense and beat James Pantemis far post. Joaquin Valiente got the second assist on the goal.
Valiente turned goal scorer in the 87th minute after an errant back pass by Portland was intercepted by Petar Musa. Musa sent a low cross to Valiente who finished to make it 2-0 FCD.
Ariel Lassiter pulled a goal back for the Timbers in second half stoppage time. Lassiter nearly got an equalizer two minutes later, but was denied by Daniel who was returning from injury after seven matches. Daniel made four saves in his return to the lineup.
FC Dallas continue their three-match home stand next Saturday against Austin FC in a Copa Tejas tilt. Kickoff is at 7:30pm CT. Portland return home next Saturday to face Atlanta United (7:30pm PT, Apple TV).
