Seattle Sounders FC 0-0 Red Bull New York
SEATTLE, WA–Both teams were in need of a win to boost their playoff hopes, both got the result that helped neither side as the match ended in a goalless draw. The Sounders’ winless streak in league play is now eleven while Red Bull have won just once in their last eight league matches and have slipped to tenth in the East–outside the playoffs on goal difference. Seattle are now three points out of a playoff spot in the West, but must now pass four teams to reach them.
Red Bull had Ethan Horvath to thank for keeping the Sounders off the scoresheet as he made six saves–including two in the first half on Dejan Joveljic and Jordan Morris. Horvath also had an outstanding save in the 64th minute on an Albert Rusnak free kick. Andrew Thomas would have four saves for the Sounders.
Both teams had chances in stoppage time. Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting was denied by Thomas. Paul Arriola had a shot from 20 yards out, but his shot struck the crossbar. The match would end goalless and both sides are still looking for that win that might rejuvenate their season.
The Sounders travel to LA Galaxy next Saturday (7:30pm PT, Apple TV), while Red Bull next travels to LAFC on Wednesday (10:30pm ET, Apple TV).
