Red Bull New York 3-2 Orlando City SC

HARRISON, NJ–Making his first MLS start, Mijahir Jimenez netted a brace and scored the goal that secured the three points for the Red Bulls as they came out 3-2 winners against Orlando City.

Emil Forsberg scored the other and Cade Cowell managed to register two assists.

The Red Bulls found the opener in the 23rd minute when Mijahir Jimenez was there to tap in after a well worked move found its way to Gustav Berggren who played a first time cross into Jimenez who finished with ease.

New York doubled their lead on the brink of half time after Cowell picked out Forsberg with precision before drilling a shot into the bottom right corner.

This was the 34-year old’s second MLS goal of the season and will hopefully give him that goalscoring confidence going into the rest of the season.

After Tyrese Spicer got Orlando back into the game, Jimenez added another to his tally shortly after to become the second player in Red Bulls history to score a brace on their first start for the club.

It was a good finish from the Panamanian who struck the ball into the top right corner from Cowell’s cutback.

“We’re really happy for Mijahir and it’s also the reason that we as a club believe so strongly in the pathway and connection between the first team and the second team and the academy” said Head Coach Michael Bradley.

Tim Parker came on with 15 minutes to go to make his 100th MLS appearance with New York.

This victory also ensures that the Red Bulls maintain their unbeaten run against Orlando City, extending this run to six games in all competitions.

The Red Bulls now travel to face Atlanta United on Saturday August 15 at Mercedes-Benz stadium.

Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. ET.
