Revolution II & Toronto FC II battle to 0-0 draw, win 7-6 in penalties

SMITHFIELD, RI– New England Revolution II (0-2-0, 4 pts) battled to a 0-0 draw and then were victorious 7-6 in penalties over Toronto FC II (0-1-1, 1 pts) on Sunday night.

The match kicked off at 5:00 p.m. ET at Beirne Stadium.

The match kicked off with Toronto FC starting from the center circle as they elected to send the ball into New England’s defensive third to begin the match.

New England had the first chance of the match in just the 2nd minute when a shot by Allan Oyirwoth was blocked and an additional shot by Jayden Da was sent high over the bar.

Judah Siqueira had the next chance for New England in the 7th minute when his effort went just over the bar.

New England had the next chance in the 14th minute when an effort by Cristiano Oliveira was blocked away by defender Luca Costabile.

Toronto FC II had their first shot on target in the 24th minute when an effort towards goal by Elias Khodri was comfortably saved by goalkeeper JD Gunn.

In the 32nd minute, Toronto FC II midfielder Bryce Boneau was issued a yellow card for fouling forward Judah Siqueira.

Judah Siqueira’s ensuing freekick moments later was met with a punch out for a corner kick by goalkeeper Zakaria Nakhly.

Myles Morgan had the next chance for New England just two minutes alter when his low-driven effort was blocked out for a corner by goalkeeper Zakaria Nakhly.

New England had yet another chance in the 41st minute when a ball delivered into the area was headed towards goal by Damario McIntosh and blocked away for another corner kick.

Toronto FC II had the last chance of the half when a corner kick delivery in the 45+2 minute was sent into the area, bounced around multiple times, and then was inevitably cleared.

After the initial 45+2 minutes, the match entered halftime with the scoreline level at 0-0.

The second half began with New England starting from the center circle as they elected to move the ball through the midfield.

Both forward Elias Khodri & forward Damar Dixon both had chances to score for Toronto FC II in the 46th minute when their efforts were blocked by defender Jake Shannon & saved by goalkeeper JD Gunn.

In the 54th minute, Revolution II defender Chris Mbaï-Assem was issued a yellow card for fouling Elias Koudri.

Cristiano Oliveira had a massive chance in the 57th minute when his effort struck the crossbar and went out for a goal kick.

Damario McIntosh had the next chance for New England in the 60th minute when his right-footed effort went just wide of the right post.

In the 63rd minute, both teams made changes. Toronto FC II head coach Gianni Cimini made his first two changes by replacing Bryce Boneau & Joshua Nugent with Jahmarie Nolan & Edwin Omoregbe. Revolution II head coach Pablo Moreira made his first change by replacing Javaun Mussenden with Makai Wells.

Toronto had their best chance less than a minute later when an effort by Luca Costabile went high and wide of the net.

New England’s next chance came in the 72nd minute when a delivery into the area by Damario McIntosh found the head of Myles Morgan, however, his effort was met with a save by goalkeeper Zakaria Nakhly.

In the 76th minute, Toronto FC II midfielder Timothy Fortier was issued a yellow card for impeding Revolution midfielder Allan Oyirwoth.

In the 79th minute, Toronto FC II forward Edwin Omoregbe was issued a yellow card for fouling midfielder Judah Siqueira.

Toronto FC II head coach Gianni Cimini made two more changes in the 84th minute when he replaced Luca Costabile & Damar Dixon with Micah Chisholm & Shyon Pinnock.

Allan Oyirwoth had the next chance for New England when his long distant effort in the 87th minute went wide of the net.

Oyirwoth had another massive chance in the 90+1 minute when his effort towards goal was met with a spectacular save by goalkeeper Zakaria Nakhly.

After the 90+3 minutes, Toronto FC II head coach Gianni Cimini was issued a yellow card for dissent.

After the 90+3 minutes, the match concluded in a 0-0 draw.

Penalties would be used to determine which team left with an extra point.

The Revolution’s first penalty kick taker was Jayden Da. His right footed shot was saved in the bottom right to keep it 0-0.

Toronto FC II’s first penalty kick taker was Elias Koudri. His right footed shot was converted in the bottom right of the goal to give Toronto the lead at 1-0.

The Revolution’s second penalty kick taker was Judah Siqueira. His right footed shot was finished in the bottom right corner to level the scoreline 1-1.

Toronto FC II’s second penalty kick taker was Fletcher bank. His left footed shot was buried into the bottom right corner to give Toronto the lead at 2-1.

The Revolution’s third penalty kick taker was Allan Oyirwoth. His right footed shot was scored in the center left of the net to level it at 2-2.

Toronto FC II’s third penalty kick taker was Jahmarie Nolan. His right footed shot was buried in the top left corner to give Toronto the lead at 3-2.

The Revolution’s fourth penalty kick taker was Jake Shannon. His right footed shot went into the bottom right corner to level it at 3-3.

Toronto FC II’s fourth penalty kick taker was Reid Fisher. His right footed shot was saved in the bottom left corner by JD Gunn to keep it level at 3-3.

The Revolution’s fifth penalty kick taker was Damario McIntosh. His right footed shot went into the bottom left corner to give New England a 4-3 advantage.

Toronto FC II’s fifth penalty kick taker was Jackson Gilman. His right footed shot was scored in the bottom right corner past JD Gunn to level it at 4-4.

The Revolution’s sixth penalty kick taker was Cristiano Oliveira. His right footed shot went into the bottom left corner to give New England a 5-4 advantage.

Toronto FC II’s sixth penalty kick taker was Tim Fortier. His right footed shot was buried in the bottom right corner to level it at 5-5.
